How to Paint With Fluid Acrylics

WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ABOUT FLUID ACRYLICS?

Yesterday I got to go to the University of Iowa for a college visit. Yikes! I have a college aged kid! After the visit, I made a stop at my favorite art supply store and purchased a new type of paint to try.

FLUID ACRYLICS! I am not a huge fan of acrylics because they dry so fast, but fluid acrylics seemed intriguing to me because of their inky consistency.

As an oil painter, I still felt like they dried way too fast, but I was amazed with the outcome of my first attempt! While they dry faster than I can think while I am painting, in some ways, this can be a blessing .

WHY? Because it forces overthinkers like myself, to paint more loosely and intuitively, which results in a more impressionistic style painting that is not overmixed.

I couldn’t believe how much this painting started to look like a photo, the further I stepped away from it! I think that it might be due to the fact that the paint dries before it can blend with the other layers of color resulting in a more pixilated group of colors with the contrasts preserved!

I was very skeptical about this kind of paint at first, but I might have to try it again! I love the vibrance of the colors! I would love to hear what you think about this.
