Finger Painting on the Fly

If you use your imagination, can you tell that the inspiration to this painting was the rolling green hills of Iowa's countryside at sunset while my husband was driving at 70mph across HWY 65 in May?

That's exactly when and where this painting was born. I painted in our van while riding in the passenger seat!  This is not an uncommon thing for me to do.  In fact, I have done several paintings this way, drawings, sketches, etc.  Pictured below, is from another road trip, when I painted "Firework"

Painting "Firework" the allium flower from my garden in my mobile art studio.

Maybe this is the true definition of speed painting!

The original painting was done with gouache paint on a 9x12 inch water color paper using my fingers and the tubes of paint as my paint brushes.   The sky was so beautiful that night, I wanted to attempt to capture it as quickly as I could get the paint out of the tubes and onto the paper.

Doing so, helps me to lock in memories of places and people, the weather at that moment, what we were doing, etc. We were traveling to Mount Ayr for Memorial Day weekend 2017 to see Tim's family, and also to find out a great surprise: that we get to be Aunt and Uncle to a new baby in December! My husband's sister announced that she was having a baby that same weekend!

After sharing the painting on social media, I got such a great response that I have decided to offer it to you as a gallery wrapped canvas print. If you would be interested in other sizes or formats, this art can be printed on a multitude of substrates.
